How to measure your ring size at home

Method 1: measure a ring that already fits

1. Choose a ring that fits the finger you want to measure.
2. Measure the inside of the ring from edge to edge with a ruler, in millimeters.
3. Enter that number in the converter as "Inside of a ring", or find it in the Diameter column of the chart.

Method 2: string or paper strip

1. Wrap a thin strip of paper or a piece of string around the base of your finger.
2. Mark the point where the end overlaps.
3. Lay it flat and measure the length to the mark in millimeters. That is your circumference.
4. Enter it in the converter, or find it in the Circumference column.

Method 3: printable ring sizer

1. Download the printable ring sizer and print it at 100% (Actual size).
2. Check the scale line on the sheet with a ruler: it must measure exactly 50 mm.
3. Either place a ring on the circles, or cut out the paper strip and wrap it around your finger.

Tips for the most accurate size

• Measure at the end of the day, when your fingers are warm. Fingers are smaller in the morning and in the cold.
• Measure 2 or 3 times to be sure.
• The ring must slide over your knuckle. If your knuckle is wider than the base of your finger, measure both and choose a size in between.
• For wide bands (6 mm or more), choose half a size larger.
• Between two sizes? Choose the larger one.

Men's and women's ring sizes

Many women wear sizes between US 5 and 7, and many men between US 8 and 11. A ring size is the same scale for everyone, so men and women use the same chart above. If you are buying a surprise gift, borrow a ring the person wears on the same finger and measure its inside diameter.

Ring size questions

How can I find my ring size without a ring sizer?

Wrap a strip of paper or string around the base of your finger, mark where it overlaps and measure the length in millimeters. Enter that number in the converter above or find it in the Circumference column.

Is ring size the same in the US and the UK?

No. The US and Canada use numbers (for example 7), the UK and Australia use letters (for example N½), and Europe uses the circumference in millimeters (for example 54). Use the chart to convert.

What if I am between two sizes?

Choose the larger size, so the ring slides comfortably over your knuckle.
